About the area

Trulli La Macina is situated in Contrada Calongo at Cisternino in the heart of Murgia and overlooks the evocative Valle d’Itria. A picturesque landscape among farms, trulli and dry-stone walls, immersed in the countryside with its orchards and age-old olive trees, which create breathtaking contrasts and scenery. From its strategic position between Bari and Brindisi, you can easily reach fascinating places and routes among nature, history and culture.

The Trulli

The TRULLI, belonging to Unesco heritage, are original and primitive dry-stone buildings with a central plant on which the typical cone shaped dome raises.
They were built by peasants using the stone removed from their vineyards. The thickness of wall together with the reduced opening of the windows make them naturally cool in Summer and warm in Winter. The LAMIE, square shaped structures are often annexed to the trulli and were used as peasants’ houses.

Food

Fundamental ingredient of this experience is the simple but creative Apulian food. Famous for its dairy products and its renowned wines, the characteristic is use of local ingredients and wild herbs and spices.
